Riverlyn is coming home 🥰 - Update -

As of today we’ve been home a week and a half. In that time Riverlyn has seen her GI doctor, dietician, cardiologist, pediatrician, home-nursing case worker, and early intervention case worker. Phew…

It’s taken this long for me to collect enough of myself to compose an email. The transition home has been glorious and also trying. Now that I’m Riverlyn’s primary caregiver around the clock it has taken extra time to organize medical supplies, transportation supplies, etc. I still have a mountain of mail to go through and a closet full of winter sweaters to turn over. Logistics being what they are when we came home, the emotional impact of all we’ve been through really started to catch up with me. It’s a lot to feel and process while continuing to navigate blood thinner, GI, and feeding nuances all due to her cardiac condition. The overwhelm is amplified by the tangible needs in our new home life (care for Nathan, Riverlyn’s medications that aren’t covered, a vehicle in the shop, the back deck deteriorating…).

We’ve relied on God and our community in deeper ways than ever before and still feel like we’re trying to climb out of quicksand. We are staying as present as possible nonetheless.

We’ve also needed some time to restart a meal train. I was gluten and dairy free but have now also eliminated corn and soy to help Riverlyn’s digestion. That makes restaurants hard 🫣

In other news, this last weekend Aidan graduated from NC State and has accepted a role with an organization that helps nonprofits flourish. She is home for a few days and spent today with Nathan and won the parent award at KidStrong 👏🏼
