🤍 Riverlyn 🤍

Hello family & friends,

Here’s a quick recap of the past week:

- Monday we went in to labor & delivery with gestational hypertension

- After a long unsuccessful induction we delivered Wednesday morning by cesarean and welcomed a 7lb 6oz 20 in beautiful girl at 6:27am

- The next 24 hours were sweet and cuddly

- Thursday morning Riverlyn did not pass her newborn screenings which led to a heart echo and immediate transfer to NICU

Cardio details:

She’s got a congenital condition that is referred to as Shone’s complex. Her presenting factors are

1) A coarctation (narrowed aorta)

2) The mitral valve between the two left chambers is misshapen and underperforming

3) There is a small hole between the lower chambers

Today the cardio team met this morning and assessed her case. She’s been scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning at 7am to correct the coarctation. The lead surgeon is

Her numbers are starting to shift and she’s getting more irritable on the medication that keeps the bypass duct open so it seems she’s ready. The surgeon said her whole aorta is smaller than normal but they’ll be removing the most narrow portion. Since they’re addressing the aorta they’ll be going in through an incision on her left side rather than the sternum.

As for the other two issues, the mitral valve is the trickiest complication for health going forward but they’d like to give it time to grow even with it functioning like a “parachute.”

The hole is the most likely to resolve itself or be of little impact.

Logistics:

Matthew will be with her at the hospital from this afternoon through the procedure and immediate recovery tomorrow. She will go to the cardio unit for recovery and near future until she’s cleared to return home (which requires recovery, stability, and eating capacity). They indicated it can be a very slow process post-op.

I have some family coming in Thursday which will help on the home front as we consider Nathan and my recovery. Big sister Aidan and Uncle Oscar have been so very generous with their time thus far 🥰

Morale & method:

We are feeling like you may imagine - quite a spectrum of things. We are strong in faith for her healing and recovery. We have hope (

Thank you all for standing with us in faith - every prayer, petition, and support measure is so very appreciated.
